Some of the larger wooden rafts, planks and beams uncovered during the excavation of the deep anaerobic layers at Vindolanda are not conservable and after recording these pieces would normally be re-used as part of the backfill of the site.

Now local craftsman David Wayper has been able to created a bespoke range of Vindolanda souvenirs which are made using some of this 2,000 year old oak.  All the proceeds from the sale of these items goes directly back to supporting the ongoing excavation programme. Due to the nature of the wood acron necklace used every necklace is unique and colour may vary slightly depending on the size and condition of the original piece of wood.  Each necklace has the signature engraving of V in the design.
