What is PTE?

Pearson Test of English, also known as PTE, is an English language test designed to test non-native English speakers' English proficiency (of course you). The international students, who wish to enroll in a foreign university where English is mandatory, such as Study in Australia by enrolling in an Australian university, require clearing a PTE exam. The PTE exam has four bands.

• Listening.   
• Reading.
• Writing.
• Speaking.

The Bands of PTE

The PTE tests your English proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Let us explain these sections of the test to you in brief.

Listening: This section of the PTE exam tests your listening and attention-paying skills. You will hear an audio recording related to a particular subject, like humanities, and then write answers per the instructions.  

Reading: This band tests your reading skills along with your knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary. To finish this section, you must answer some questions, but don't worry, you don't have to write anything here as the questions are drag and drop, MCQs, etc.   

Writing: This band purely tests your English language writing skills. The questions include writing an essay, describing an image, writing about yourself, etc. 

Speaking: This section tests your English language speaking skills. You will receive a score based on your pronunciation, grammar, and confidence.   

Please note: the speaking and writing sections are combined to form 1 band, but you need to score individually well in both.

PTE Test Format: Here's the PTE test format.

To summarize the test, it has the following features.

• It is taken in a test center.
• It is a computer-based test with a headset.
• The test takes 2 hours.
• Your assessment is based on practical English.
• The test session is single.

There are 20 types of questions. The test is divided into three parts.

• Speaking & Writing. (54-67 min)
• (29-30 min)
• (30-43 min)

PTE Scoring System: The PTE exams carry a maximum of 90 overall marks, and you can get a maximum of 90 marks in each band. If you score overall around 77 marks, you will have a good PTE score.
