"The Secret Cow Level," a favorite joke/absurd rumor from Diablo I that was rumored to be packed full of Hell Bovines, is now a reality in Diablo II — an Easter Egg/joke that is both entertaining and profitable to play. Because of the large number of cow herds, high level of experience, and low danger to players, the Cow Level was the most popular area to "run" in v1.09, according to the player base.

After being nerfed in v1.10 and later, the area is no longer as popular, but buy D2R Non-Ladder Items can still provide players with some entertaining and profitable play experiences.

It's also a humorous area to visit, if only for the visual gag of cows walking around with polearms, and to hear the cows' voices in their own words. They were recorded by a variety of Blizzard North employees, and it must have taken several takes to get the laughter out of the recordings.

The Secret Cow Level is not to be taken lightly.

There were rumors and jokes about a Secret Cow Level in Diablo I, which were based on the cows in the pasture in Tristram that would moo or cause your character to say something amusing if you clicked on them for a long enough period of time. The cows in the pasture in Tristram were the inspiration for the rumors and jokes.

Aside from an Easter Egg-style joke in Diablo Hellfire, there is no secret level or anything related to cows in the game, and Blizzard has repeatedly denied the existence of such a thing in both serious and humorous ways, such as the StarCraft cheat code "there is no cow level."

It appears, however, that the Diablo II development team was inspired by this storyline and incorporated the entire level into the game.

When this screenshot was released on April 1, 1999, more than a year before the release of Diablo II, it was the first hint that a secret cow level might exist.

At the time, it was regarded as a harmless April Fool's joke, but as events transpired, the joke was clearly on us.

The cow level in the final game does not take place in the Act One caves, and none of the cows are brown in color, indicating that some changes were made during the development process.

How to get to the location

Recipe for the Secret Cow Level in Diablo 2: Resurrected

You must first complete the game (Kill Diablo in D2, Kill Baal in D2X), and then return to Act I on the same difficulty level, where you must complete the cube recipe of Wirt's Leg + a Town Portal Tome while your character is standing in the Rogue Encampment, before continuing. You don't have to keep Wirt's Leg with you forever; you can simply return to Tristram at any time and click on his corpse to obtain a new one of his.

Because you could go to the Secret Cow Level as many times as you wanted prior to v1.02, if you really enjoyed it in single player, you could uninstall Diablo II, reinstall Diablo II, and then play through the Cow Level with your open or single player characters as many times as you wanted, provided you didn't upgrade past v1.01. Current version allows for unlimited repetition of the Cow Level, provided that you do not receive quest credit for killing the Cow King in the process.

  • When D2R ladder items comes to the Secret Cow Level itself, it's pretty much what you'd expect it to be

  • Cows and more cows, collectively referred to as Hell Bovines, appear in vast herds that seem to go on forever

  • It is in the Cow Level that you will find the most densely packed monsters you will encounter anywhere else in the game

  • Every cow is the same color and has the same set of weapons; there is no variation in either coloration or weaponry

  • They all have massive polearms and deal a lot of damage when they strike you with their lightning-fast attacks, so be careful when you encounter them

Portal to the Secret Cow Level - D2R runes for sale Resurrected

- All of the action takes place on the surface of the map; there are no sublevels or dungeon or cave areas, but there is a large wooden stockade-style area with walls that look exactly like those in the Rogue Encampment

- It is square in shape, with openings on all sides, and there are a number of dead Rogues lying around, as well as others tied to stakes, as you will see frequently in Act I

- It is also full of dead Rogues

It's not a particularly favorable environment in which to fight because the approaching cows can easily fill every exit and you don't want to be cornered by them. Being cornered or too surrounded will result in scenes like this, and as you can imagine, body retrieval can be a difficult task in such circumstances.

The Cow King can be found either inside or just outside of the "fort," as sundered charms d2r is referred to in the story. As a result of his Lightning Enchantment, he should be avoided at all costs if you want to keep your ability to open the portal to the level.

Visits on a regular basis

There is no restriction on how many times you can access the cow level by utilizing the Red Portal, provided that you do not receive credit for killing the king. While you are in the Cow Level, you will receive credit if you kill him yourself or if he is killed by another player who has never killed him before. It makes no difference whether you've partied or not whether you get credit for the quest; it only matters who gets the last hit on King.

No changes will occur if they have already received credit for completing the cow quest (in which case they will not be able to open the red portal). Unless the character who receives the final blow to the Cow King is able to open the red portal, they will not receive credit for completing the quest and will no longer be able to open the red portal in the future. Furthermore, everyone else in the Cow Level, regardless of whether they are partying or not, will receive credit for completing the quest (if they didn't already have it) and will no longer be able to open the Red Portal.

It is no longer possible to open the red portal after you have already killed the king or obtained credit for killing him when someone else did so, but you can still enter the red portal when someone else does so.

Bosses are in charge.

The Cow King is the level's boss monster, and he appears in every game, always spawning somewhere inside or very close to the wooden fort. He has minions, just like any other random boss in the game, and they are very dangerous.

You can view the Cow King's complete set of statistics by clicking here. He does not appear to be different from the other cows in any way; he does not have a crown, a different coloration, or longer horns, though on hell he is frequently Aura Enchanted, which makes him easy to identify.

It is common to find random Cow Bosses and champions strewn throughout the area, and because they are all identical in appearance, it is difficult to tell whether or not a monster is the king until you have killed enough of them to clear out the mob. Because the King is always Lightning Enchanted, this is one method of informing him immediately.

In previous versions of the game, the Cow King was a guaranteed special drop, similar to the Act Bosses, though only two items were dropped. With a little Magic Find, he could almost always guarantee you a Unique or a Set.

Even though he has been toned down in v1.09, he still has the ability to drop a randomly generated array of up to five magical, rare and/or unique class items, as well as a half-dozen stamina potions (milk, anyone?).

While he will never drop top-tier items on Hell, he will drop a large number of low-tier Elite items such as Bramble Mitts, Dusk Shrouds, Shakos, and other similar items. On Hell, his Treasure Class is significantly lower than that of the normal cows.

a plan of action

The Secret Cow Level necessitates the use of an unconventional strategy. As a starting point, there is only one way in and that is through the red portal, which does not always spawn in a safe location. Since it will be impossible to return safely if you are swarmed and you exit the level through it or die, it is best to get away from it as soon as possible after you have been swarmed. Make sure you don't get swarmed.

Gameplay of Diablo 2: Resurrected's Secret Cow Level

It is important to remember that the Hell Bovines are slow on their feet, but they hit hard and attack quickly, so caution should be exercised when tanking against them. It is their sheer numbers that give them their greatest advantage, simply because 10 cows swinging at your character at the same time is a bad situation for almost anyone.

The most effective characters for the cow level are those who have ranged attacks that can hit multiple targets at the same time and are fast. In fact, thanks to Lightning Fury, which becomes increasingly effective the greater the number of targets in range, Javazons could have been created specifically to excel in this stage of the game.

Other powerful skills against the Cows include Nova, Corpse Explosion, Multishot, and Death Sentry, all of which are extremely effective. Anything that can hit a large number of targets in a single use will be effective against the cows.

The fundamental strategy for each level differs significantly. If your character has a powerful area attack, you'll want to run around with a clear goal in mind, attracting as many cows as possible to follow you around. This is referred to as "herding."Run around the mobs, "knitting" them together into larger groups so that you can attack large groups of enemies at the same time. Characters with less powerful skills will most likely want to take on the cows one at a time, and they should move slowly and carefully through the arena.

The sheer number of cows in the Cow Level contributes to the level's difficulty. The level is set outdoors and appears to be identical to any other outdoor setting in Act One. Some trees and rocks and chests were scattered throughout the area, but there were no houses or anything else that would create a bottleneck and force you to take on the cows in groups of ten or more at a time.
